What is Science Café?
Science Café is a public science forum, held monthly, where anyone can come explore the latest issues in science and technology. An expert informally and briefly introduces an interesting scientific topic, and after a break for refreshments -- and to meet new people and chat, -- we return for questions and answers and to discuss the topic with the guidance of our expert. All levels welcome.
History
Our "Science Café" is what is called a "Café Scientifique" in the United Kingdom. The idea for the cafés began there a decade ago, based on the French "Café Philosophique" but with a science twist. These cafés are now held all over the world -- from Denver, Vancouver and Oxford, to Tokyo, Minneapolis, Bozeman and Palo Alto, to Boston, New York, Seattle and now Bloomington, Indiana.
The Bloomington Science Café was founded in September 2006 by The University Graduate School Communications Director Erika Biga Lee. Topics and speakers are chosen in part by committee. The Science Café is recognized by the Bloomington Mayor's Office as an official community event and is supported by BORDERS Bookstore and The Indiana University Graduate School.
